Dermal Fillers

Dermal Fillers

Dermal Fillers are gel-like injectables consisting of hyaluronic acid that helps soften static wrinkles in the face by restoring volume and fullness in the face.  They can also be used to plump the lips and restore a more youthful appearance as our faces change during the regular aging process.

We use the Restylane and Juvederm families of fillers.  These include: Restylane-L,  Contour,  Lyft,  Defyne,  Refyne, Kysse, Juvederm Ultra, Juvederm Ultra Plus, Juvederm Voluma, Juvederm Volbella, Juvederm Vollure.

Our goal is to uncover and enhance your natural beauty, not to turn you into someone you are not.  You will still be you! You will continue to maintain your natural movements and your normal appearance. But, with a reduction in wrinkles.

Procedure:

Dermal filler injections involve the injection of gel-like substances into the skin to restore volume, smoothen lines and wrinkles, and enhance facial contours. The procedure is typically performed by a trained healthcare professional.

Indications:

Dermal fillers are used to address various cosmetic concerns, including:

1. Facial lines and wrinkles: They can reduce the appearance of lines around the mouth (nasolabial folds), lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines), and crow's feet.
2. Lip enhancement: Fillers can be used to augment the lips and provide a fuller appearance.
3. Facial contouring: They can enhance cheekbones, jawline, chin, and temples.
4. Scar correction: Some fillers can help improve the appearance of certain types of scars, such as acne scars.

Contraindications:

Dermal filler injections may not be suitable for individuals who:

1. Are pregnant or breastfeeding.
2. Have a history of severe allergic reactions.
3. Have an active skin infection or inflammation at the injection site.
4. Are currently taking blood-thinning medications.

Side Effects:

While generally safe, dermal filler injections can have some side effects, including:

1. Temporary redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection site.
2. Itching or tenderness.
3. Rarely, infection or allergic reactions.

What to Expect During Treatment:

1. The healthcare professional will cleanse the treatment area.
2. A topical anesthetic or local anesthesia may be applied to minimize discomfort.
3. The filler is injected into specific areas of the skin using a fine needle or cannula.
4. The healthcare professional may massage the treated area to ensure even distribution of the filler.

Pain Control:

Topical numbing creams or local anesthesia injections can be used to minimize pain and discomfort during the procedure. The healthcare professional will discuss the options with you and choose the most appropriate pain control method.

Duration of Procedure:

The duration of the procedure depends on the number of areas being treated but typically takes around 15 to 60 minutes.

Recovery Time:

Downtime after dermal filler injections is minimal. Some common post-treatment effects, such as swelling and bruising, may last a few days. Most individuals can resume their normal activities immediately after the procedure.

Typical Number of Sessions:

The number of sessions required varies depending on individual goals and the specific filler used. Some people achieve their desired results in a single session, while others may require multiple sessions spaced several weeks apart.

Expected Treatment Results:

Dermal fillers provide immediate results, but the full effects may become visible after any initial swelling subsides. The duration of results varies based on the type of filler used, but typically ranges from 6 to 18 months. Results can include a smoother appearance, reduced wrinkles, enhanced volume, and improved facial contours.

Post-Treatment Instructions:

Following dermal filler injections, you may be advised to:

1. Avoid touching or massaging the treated area for a few days.
2. Apply ice packs to reduce swelling, if necessary.
3. Avoid vigorous exercise and exposure to excessive heat or sunlight.
4. Use gentle skincare products and avoid chemical peels or laser treatments in the treated area for a specified period.

Typical Cost:

The cost of dermal filler injections depends on various factors, including the type and amount of filler used, the expertise of the healthcare professional, and the location. The cost can range from a few hundred to several thousand dollars per session.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a chemical peel?
A chemical peel is a cosmetic procedure performed by a licensed professional to improve the appearance of the skin on the face, neck, or hands. It involves applying a chemical solution to the skin, which causes the outer layers to exfoliate, revealing smoother, healthier skin underneath.
  • How does a chemical peel work?
The chemical solution used in a peel causes controlled damage to the skin's outer layers. This stimulates the skin to shed dead cells and prompts the body to produce new collagen and elastin, leading to a rejuvenated and more youthful appearance.
  • What skin concerns can be addressed with chemical peels?
Chemical peels can help improve various skin concerns, such as fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, acne scars, uneven skin tone, pigmentation issues, and mild to moderate acne.
  • Are there different types of chemical peels?
Yes, chemical peels come in various types and strengths, including superficial, medium, and deep peels. The type of peel used depends on the specific skin concerns being addressed and the desired level of exfoliation.
  • How long does a chemical peel procedure take?
The duration of a chemical peel procedure can vary depending on the type and depth of the peel being performed. Typically, superficial peels take about 30 minutes, while medium to deep peels may take up to an hour or more.
  • Is a chemical peel painful?
Most patients experience a mild burning or stinging sensation during the procedure, which subsides relatively quickly. Deeper peels may cause more discomfort, but pain management techniques can be used to minimize any discomfort.
  • How long is the recovery period after a chemical peel?
The recovery time can vary depending on the depth of the peel. Superficial peels may have little to no downtime, with some redness and peeling that usually resolves within a few days. Medium to deep peels may require a week or more of recovery time, during which the skin may be red, swollen, and peeling.
  • Are there any side effects or risks associated with chemical peels?
Like any cosmetic procedure, chemical peels carry some risks, such as redness, swelling, irritation, and increased sensitivity to the sun. In rare cases, there might be complications like scarring or infection, especially with deeper peels.
  • How many sessions of chemical peels are needed to see results?
The number of sessions required depends on the individual's skin condition and the type of peel used. Some people may achieve desired results with a single peel, while others might need a series of peels spaced several weeks apart for optimal results.
  • Can anyone get a chemical peel?
While chemical peels are generally safe for most skin types, not everyone is a suitable candidate. People with certain skin conditions, such as eczema, dermatitis, or recent sunburns, may need to avoid chemical peels. It's essential to consult with a qualified professional to determine if a chemical peel is right for you.
